Empowering the Next Generation

Speaking at Mirichu Secondary School

The Science of Prevention

Adolescence and early adulthood are crucial periods in brain development. Research continues to show that individuals under the age of 25 are especially vulnerable to substance dependency due to ongoing brain maturation. We discussed the science behind addiction, the triggers that often lead young people down this path, and the social pressures that exacerbate it. Recognizing this vulnerability is not just important—it is urgent.

A Collective Responsibility

Preventing substance abuse is not a one-person job. It requires a unified effort from families, schools, communities, and organizations alike. The increasing prevalence of drug and alcohol abuse among our youth calls for bold action, compassionate education, and sustained engagement.

“Children are not things to be molded, but people to be unfolded.” – Jess Lair

Together, we can build support systems that inform, uplift, and protect young minds. Let’s continue to educate, mentor, and empower.
